Punjab Government Under AAP: Key Initiatives and Changes in Public Services
Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has introduced and expanded a number of initiatives in areas including healthcare, education, digital governance, public services and citizen welfare.
Since taking office in 2022, the government has focused on strengthening public-facing services and expanding access to government facilities. Several of these initiatives continue to be implemented and expanded across the state.
Expansion of Aam Aadmi Clinics
Healthcare has remained one of the prominent areas of the government’s public-service programme. Punjab’s health system currently supports a large network of Aam Aadmi Clinics, along with other public health institutions and Health & Wellness Centres.
According to the Punjab Health System Corporation, the state’s health infrastructure currently includes 990 Aam Aadmi Clinics, 2,511 Health & Wellness Centres and 227 secondary healthcare institutions. Government procurement and construction activities for additional Aam Aadmi Clinics are also continuing in 2026.
The objective of these facilities is to make basic healthcare services more accessible to people, particularly at the local and village level.
Focus on Education and Schools
Education has also been an important area of policy attention. Punjab’s Schools of Eminence and other meritorious-school programmes are being developed to provide students with improved educational facilities and academic opportunities.
The government continues to engage specialised coaching services for students of Classes 9 to 12 in Schools of Eminence and Meritorious Schools for competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET.
Digital Government Services
Another major area of change has been the expansion of digital public services. The Punjab Government’s DiGi Punjab platform aims to bring multiple citizen services together through a unified digital interface.
The platform provides features such as online applications, service tracking, notifications and access to government services through digital channels. The government also operates eServices Punjab for integrated delivery of services through district administration.
These initiatives are intended to reduce paperwork and make government services more accessible to citizens.
Public Health and Wellness Initiatives
Alongside conventional healthcare services, Punjab has also promoted preventive health and wellness programmes. CM Di Yogshala, a Punjab Government initiative, offers free yoga classes with certified instructors and aims to make yoga and meditation more accessible to residents.
Development of Sports Infrastructure
Sports infrastructure is another area where government projects continue to be announced across Punjab. Recent government tenders include projects for sports stadiums, synthetic tracks and renovation of existing sports facilities in different districts.
Such projects are aimed at providing improved facilities for athletes and young people at the local level.
A Continued Focus on Citizen Services
The Punjab Government operates a large number of departments covering agriculture, health, education, employment, housing and urban development, sports, transport and other areas. Its digital platforms also provide citizens with access to information about schemes, services, applications and government documents.
The scale of these initiatives shows that public service delivery, healthcare access, education and digital governance remain important parts of the Punjab Government’s administrative agenda.
Looking Ahead
The impact of government programmes ultimately depends on their implementation, accessibility and outcomes for citizens. As projects continue to expand, regular monitoring, transparency and feedback from the public will remain important in determining how effectively these initiatives serve people across Punjab.
For residents, the key question is not only how many schemes are announced, but also how efficiently they reach villages, towns and cities and how easily ordinary citizens can access the services.
