New Delhi, September 16, 2026: India on Wednesday summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest over what the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described as the “unacceptable and unprofessional conduct” of Pakistani naval units that led to a collision with an Indian Navy unit.
According to the MEA, the incident took place in international waters and did not cause any major damage. India said the conduct of the Pakistani naval ship was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the April 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements.
The Pakistani Charge d’Affaires was advised to convey to the concerned authorities in Pakistan the need for all military units to exercise due care and comply with the provisions of relevant bilateral agreements to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
The MEA also said India’s Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad had been instructed to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Indian government sources cited by media reports, the incident occurred on the evening of September 15 in the North Arabian Sea, when a Pakistani naval vessel approached an Indian Navy warship conducting a routine surveillance mission. The sources said the Pakistani vessel’s manoeuvring resulted in the collision. No major damage was reported.
